How much to save each month: a savings calculator
Got a goal? We work out how much to put aside every month so that, after your broker's fees and tax, you keep what you want.

The return, the fund cost and inflation are your assumptions, not a forecast. Markets can return less, or lose money.

How we calculate
- You pay in at the start of every month, and each payment is one buy order. The commission and currency conversion from the broker's price list come out of the payment.
- The value grows by the assumed return, added monthly, in złoty. We don't model exchange rate moves or dividend payouts (an accumulating fund).
- Custody and account fees are charged as the broker's price list says, on the average value over the fee's period.
- At the end you sell everything in one order, with the commission and conversion back to złoty.
- Tax depends on the account. On a regular account you pay tax on the gain, on IKE nothing when you withdraw as the law provides, on IKZE tax on the whole payout.
- IKE and IKZE get payments up to the yearly limit, the rest goes to a regular account at the same broker. With both accounts, IKZE is filled first, then IKE. The IKZE tax refund arrives in April of the next year and goes to the regular account.
- The amount in today's money is the result reduced by the assumed inflation for every year of the plan.
- Without an age we assume a payout within the rules. With your age we check whether at the end of the plan you have the required age and payments in enough years; if not, we calculate an early withdrawal (zwrot) with its tax.
- The IKZE tax refund assumes you have taxable income that year of at least the payment. With the flat-rate tax we use the higher IKZE limit for the self-employed.
- The plan starts this month. IKE and IKZE limits, the tax refund and the years with payments run by calendar year: this year's limit covers the months left in it, and a new one starts in January.

Frequently asked questions
How much should I save each month for retirement?
It depends on the goal and the time. To keep 500,000 zł on a regular account at XTB in 20 years, you need to put aside about 1,373 zł a month. We assume foreign ETFs, a return of 5% a year and a fund cost of 0.20%.
How much do I need to save to have a million złoty?
To keep 1,000,000 zł on a regular account at XTB in 20 years, at a return of 5% a year you need to put aside about 2,746 zł a month. At inflation of 3.0% a year, that million then buys what about 553,676 zł buys today.
IKE or IKZE when saving for retirement?
Both accounts have yearly limits: in 2026, 28,260 zł for IKE and 11,304 zł for IKZE. You can have both at once. For the goal in the first question you would then need 1,262 zł a month instead of 1,373 zł on a regular account (the IKZE refund counted at a PIT rate of 12%), if you withdraw within the rules.
When can I withdraw from IKE and IKZE with the tax privilege?
From IKE with no tax on the gain once you are 60 years old (55 years old with pension rights), with payments in at least 5 calendar years. From IKZE once you are 65 years old, with payments in at least 5 calendar years, at a 10% tax on the whole payout. Earlier it is a withdrawal (zwrot): on IKE you pay 19% tax on the gain, on IKZE the whole amount is income taxed on the scale.
Does the calculator account for inflation?
The goal is the amount on your account after the years you choose. Inflation is shown beside it: at 3.0% a year, 500,000 zł in 20 years buys what about 276,838 zł buys today.
