Frequently asked questions
How much will I earn on Polish Treasury savings bonds?
It depends on the series, how long you hold it and inflation. The calculator takes the interest rate and the early redemption fee from the issue letter of the series on sale this month, values it the way the Polish Ministry of Finance's interest tables do and takes off the tax on interest (19%). The result is what you get in hand, with its value in today's money beside it.
How much will I earn on Poland's ten-year EDO bonds?
EDO pays a fixed rate only in the first year. In later years it pays the inflation GUS announces before each year starts plus the margin in the issue letter, the margin alone in deflation. Interest is added to the capital every year and paid at maturity. Nobody knows inflation in advance, so the calculator shows an example at the inflation you pick; by default it is NBP's inflation target, 2.5%.
How much will I earn on Poland's three-year TOS bonds?
TOS pays a fixed rate for the whole term, so the result doesn't depend on inflation. Interest is added to the capital every year and paid at maturity. On an early redemption the fee from the issue letter is taken off, at most the interest accrued, and the tax (19%) is on the interest after that fee.
Who can buy the family bonds ROS and ROD in Poland?
The family bonds, six-year ROS and twelve-year ROD, are sold only to people entitled to the child benefit (świadczenie wychowawcze), up to the benefit received. They work like EDO: a fixed rate in the first year, then inflation plus a margin. The calculator shows them with the other series but doesn't check whether you can buy them.
How is Belka tax on Polish savings bonds calculated?
A flat tax of 19% is withheld from the interest. On an early redemption it is calculated on the interest less the early redemption fee, and the tax is rounded up to the full grosz. The calculator counts bonds bought outside IKE and IKZE.
What does redeeming Polish savings bonds early cost?
The fee per bond is in each series' issue letter. For bonds that add interest to the capital it is never more than the interest accrued, so the payout is never below what you paid in. COI, ROR and DOR have that limit only in the first interest period; after it the fee is taken in full, so the payout can be lower. Interest runs a few more business days after you place the order, and the money arrives the business day after. The calculator assumes the order is placed on the purchase anniversary.
When is the interest on Polish savings bonds paid?
It depends on the type. EDO, TOS, ROS, ROD and OTS add the interest to the capital and pay it at maturity. The four-year COI pays interest every year, and the one-year ROR and two-year DOR every month, on the last day of each interest period; when that falls on a Saturday or a public holiday, on the first business day after it. The interest goes to whoever holds the bonds on the record day, a few business days before the payment. Tax of 19% is withheld from each payment.
How much will I earn on Poland's four-year COI bonds?
COI pays a fixed rate in the first year, and in later years the inflation GUS announces plus the margin in the issue letter, the margin alone in deflation. The interest isn't added to the capital: it reaches your account every year, less tax of 19%. The calculator counts it as if, once paid, it earned nothing, at the inflation you pick; by default it is NBP's inflation target, 2.5%.
How much will I earn on Poland's one-year ROR bonds?
ROR pays a fixed rate in the first month, and in later months the NBP reference rate, set before each month starts, plus the margin in the issue letter. The interest reaches your account every month, less tax of 19%. Nobody knows the NBP rate in advance: the calculator shows an example at the rate you pick, by default the one in the Polish Ministry of Finance's newest interest table.
How much will I earn on Poland's two-year DOR bonds?
DOR works like ROR, but for two years: a fixed rate in the first month, then the NBP reference rate plus the margin in the issue letter, with interest paid to your account every month. It can be redeemed early; after the first month the fee from the issue letter is taken in full, so the payout can be lower than what you paid in.
